You’ll Never Guess What Suppliers Think of Party Plan Businesses

Hey there,

Many party plan businesses find it difficult to find wholesale product suppliers who will do business with them. This is a really frustrating experience and you can easily take it as a personal insult (when you shouldn’t, it isn’t about you personally).

Wholesale suppliers want retail customers who place regular orders of a reasonable size that work in well with their existing customer base.

If the wholesale product supplier gets complaints from long term retail customers about another business moving onto their patch and under cutting them most suppliers will look after their long term customer and let go of the new customer or whichever is smaller. It is about loyalty.

Suppliers also have a problem when a new customer comes along and wants only to initially place a small order for samples then months later comes along and wants to place a big order for items that are now out of stock. When they can’t get the items the new customer gets angry and upset with the supplier because they are feeling the pressure from their party plan customers to deliver the items.

Many suppliers have had a party plan business get upset with them about stock being sold out and it’s been such a negative experience they right-off all party plan businesses who order from samples as being too difficult to deal with.

Whereas if you sell directly from your party plan business kit then you’ll order quantities that wholesale product suppliers are happy to sell. This can make it a heap easier to get new wholesale suppliers.

My friend Nicole has vast experience as a sales manager and had party plan businesses went into areas with their stock where they had a range of very profitable shop customers and sold the clothes 20% cheaper than the shops. The party plan businesses were able to do this because their overheads were less than the shops. The shop owners went mad and it became such a horrible upset that the party plan businesses were banned.

The result for the party plan businesses was that they couldn’t find local suppliers with low delivery charges so their business costs shot up and profits went down. If they had only competed with the local shops with say a 5% discount on standard items (periodic sale items are different) then the shops wouldn’t have had much of a leg to stand on - they probably wouldn’t have found out in the first place - and the supplier wouldn’t have stop doing business with them.

Personally I think it is best to source suppliers that can bring you products that aren’t in the local shops. This gives you more freedom with pricing and a great point of difference while also minimising supplier problems. I know this is something my wholesale party plan customers value with my range of jewelry.

With the internet home party plan products wholesale availability from all over the world is much easier.

So be smart with suppliers and doing business.

If you have a website associated with your direct sales party plan business then you can honestly say you have an online business and many are happy to supply these businesses.  Once they find you are a good and consistent customer that isn’t ruining income from other customers then they won’t care how you sell the goods.

So remember when you start your own party plan business when you understand where someone is coming from then it is much easier to do business with them. Suppliers want good relationships with profitable customers.

Have a Direct Selling Party Plan Business You Can be Proud of!

Hey there,

Having your own party plan business gives you the opportunity to structure a business how you want it to be. You can choose the customer service values and culture, the quality and presentation of the marketing of the party plan direct selling business that matters to you.

One of the things I’ve found most liberating since leaving the corporate world and starting my own party plan opportunity, my own direct selling business is that I set the standards and qualities of the business. So no more nasty and wasteful politics or backstabbing. Instead I focus on positivity and generosity, I reward my customers and hostesses and build loyalty through constructive methods.

You can have a direct selling party plan business you can be proud of by figuring out what you do like and what you don’t like. On a sheet of paper draw two columns with the headings of Good Qualities and Bad Qualities (or Good Enough, Not Good Enough; Positive, Negative - you get the idea) and write down experiences and behaviours from your own perspective as an employee and a customer.

From this list you can clearly see what have been positive experiences and what’s been negative experiences. What ones do you want associated with your business for your team and customers? I’d bet it is all the positive and none of the negative.

This empowers you to either start how you want to travel or to change what’s happening now that isn’t good enough for your business and what is probably causing harm and financial loss. This is especially important for a direct sales home party plan business because your profit is gained by going into the private homes of customers and getting referrals. SO it is ALL about the customer and their positive experience.

A customer can’t have a positive experience if their party plan consultant is unhappy because her party plan company has a negative culture and she’s unhappy. Nor can the customer easily refer her friends and family to a party plan consultant who thinks the party is all about her and forgets it is all about the customers.

So if you look after the culture and values of your home based party plan business then you can much more easily create a direct selling business you can be proud of both financially and with its reputation.

Finding Direct Selling Party Plan Support in Australia

Hey there,

One of the challenges of being self employed with a home based business like a direct selling party plan business is feeling isolated because you don’t have work mates around you to discuss what’s happening and have that mutual support.

That’s where industry associations can be particularly valuable. For the direct selling party plan businesses out there there’s the Direct Selling Association of Australia (DSAA) that was formed in 1967 to promote and portect the ideals and opportunties of individuals and companies involved in direct selling. The DSAA website is www.dsaa.asn.au

The DSAA has grown to represent more that 600,000 independent sales persons within Australia. Just from the members alone of the DSAA annual retail sales are approximately $1.30 Billion. The majority of independent salespersons are women (71%) and most are part time and setting their own goals, running and operating their own businesses to suit their lifestyles.

Build a Successful Party Plan Business In Australia

Hey there,

Australia has a direct selling industry worth over $1.3 Billion per year of members by the Direct Selling Association Australia (DSAA) alone. That’s not taking into account the independent direct selling party plan consultants who aren’t members so the figure is much higher.

Since 2005 I’ve been doing jewellery party plan locally in Sydney and Canberra  I’ve been amazed how many people regularly have direct sale parties in their homes as a normal part of socialising and shopping. Most direct selling party plan businesses seem to be independent businesses run by women with products for women.

Unlike in America party games are not popular with Australian customers and are seen as being awkward and embarrassing (in a negative sense). Party games are really only held by party plan companies that originate in the US and are not used by home grown businesses.

For many direct selling businesses they are succeeding so well they find it challenging getting enough consultants and you’ll see requests like selling consultants party plan melbourne needed, so it is a booming industry.
