Lots of New Earrings!

I’m really enjoying the cooler evenings and getting to make more earrings for market.

The Rocks Markets have been great for sales but the flip side is I keep being short on stock. I catch up with pearl necklaces one week, the next week I’m out of charm bracelets and drop earrings. I make more bracelets and earrings, I sell out of jewellery rolls. It’s great having this side of success but it is also great having cooler evenings so it’s more comfortable making designs.

I tend to work at the computer during the day, go out on errands, have lunch with friends, go shopping, you know, the usual things during the day! So the evenings I’m at home I’ll settle down with a movie or the tv and make my earrings, necklaces, bracelets etc.

This week I’ve been good, stayed home and made heaps of earrings. I’m feeling very proud of myself for being so diligent. I’m really hoping I’ll get to market on the weekend and find that I’ve remembered all the different types of earrings I had to make - usually I find I’ve missed something after all, even though I write myself notes at market in the first place! Hopefully this just means I’m human after all.

So next week will probably be necklaces, and the story continues.

See some of my earrings online in the gallery.

The Lazy Way to Heal a Sprained Ankle

Hey there,

Off to the doctors today I went to find out when I could get back to normal with my sprained ankle and what a great visit it was! Heaps of praise for looking after the sprained ankle so well with the rest at the very beginning and the generous use of arnica.

So I should have completely normal use of it this time next week! So that is really just a two week recovery time for a moderately sprained ankle.

I’ve been asking everyone if they’ve sprained their ankle and how long it took for them to heal and I’ve only heard horror stories of it being weeks and weeks, even months but always they kept going when it initially happened and didn’t rest it in those first few days. So that resting it for 2 - 3 days makes weeks of difference in the healing!

I dealt with the itchy healing stage with a natural moisturiser with lavender in it to sooth and that did the job so no more waking up at stupid hours trying to satisfy a frustrating itchy foot!

So my recommendation is to let your body rest as soon as possible so it can heal as quickly as possible. You save so much more time and effort this way that solidering on.

How to quickly heal a sprained ankle

Hey there,

Well it’s been 72+ hours since I sprained my ankle and I’ve spent most of that time on the lounge with my ankle elevated, strapped firmly with lots of arnica and I’ve stayed off it as much as possible. The rest of the household have been great with doing everything I do and caring for me (a healthy experience for them and a frustrating one for me!).

From all that I read online it was the staying off the ankle for the first 24 - 48 hours that makes all the difference and as  I have to be on my feet with work for most of the next two days I decided it was best to give the ankle as much of a fighting chance as possible to heal.

I’ve been amazed by the stories of others of how they just kept going with their sprained ankles and it took months for it to fully heal. Even after just 3 days resting a moderate ankle sprain I think mine is healing quickly. I think this is due to the resting and the arnica. I guess I’ll really know next week!

So that’s my tip for how to quickly heal a sprained ankle - rest, elevate, use arnica and stay off it for at least 48 hours.

How to Care for a Sprained Ankle

Hey there,

Out in the park today I managed to sprain my ankle - what pain! So now I’m stuck resting the ankle and finding ways to get better quickly.

So I did a search on:

How to treat a sprained ankle? The answer: use lavish amounts of arnica, bandage firmly without harming circulation, elevate and rest for 24 - 48 hours and be kind to yourself.

How long does it take for a sprained ankle to heal? The answer: depending on how bad the sprain but about 3 - 8 weeks for a moderate sprain.

What is arnica? Haven’t heard of arnica before? The answer:It is a great way to help the body heal from bruises, sprains and breaks.

So I’ve a quiet week ahead with lots of rest. Maybe a spot of online shopping is called for? :)

Quality Glass Making Regions

Hey there,

The Bohemians of the Czech Republic have carved a niche in many glass making markets and have had local competition for centuries - from Venice, near by German, Poland glassmaking regions and Austria.

This local competition has inspired the finest innovations in quality and techniques. The benefactors of centuries of close competition are you and me.

Many people instantly associate top quality lampwork bead designs with the Venetians and the Island of Murano. Their work is stunningly beautiful and their reputation is well earned. The Italians have a natural talent for promoting their wonderful abilities and understanding that business building has a lot to do with brand building. So over the centuries they have required the jewelers who use their components to include their name in the end result. Hence they are so well known.

The Bohemians are not so comfortable about coming forward. They have traditionally let jewelry designers and others use their work without requiring them to identify their source.

The end result today is one of naming. Both regions produce equally well crafted and stunning glass work, especial lampwork beads, but with the ability to brand their produce the Venetians are the best known internationally for glass beads. Yet the Bohemian glass still retains that little bit of extra magic for me and always will, especially because of their use of color and tones.

I love creating handmade lampwork beaded jewelry using the Czech encased lampwork glass beads and crystals as well as the compliments I get when wearing or showcasing them.

I find the best way to enjoy my lampwork necklaces and drop earrings is to use jewelry display stands, including earring holders so I can see them (no use hiding beautifully designed jewelry in a messy jewelry box!).

The Difference Between Bohemian and Czech Glass Beads

Hey there,

So what is the difference between Bohemian and Czech glass beads? None at all. It all comes down to the history of the region and how the region’s name changed after WWI.

Bohemian beads are Czech beads.

Before 1918 the area now known as the Czech Republic was called Bohemia.

Now days the name ‘Bohemia’ refers to a region north west of Prague where there is a strong industry of glass making including beads, buttons and baubles. It is probably best known now days for being the home of the best quality handmade lampwork beads that are used to make beautiful lampwork jewelry such as dangle earrings, long beaded necklaces with the classic Czech glass encased lampwork beads.

Earring Holders are great for Dangle Earrings and Stud Earrings

Hey there,

Having a messy earring collection can be really frustrating and annoying, especially having messy tangles with necklaces and earrings. So when you go to wear something it is all knotted up with everything else so you get frustrated with the time it takes to get them out so you can get out the door.

This is not only bad for the jewelry itself but it also means you miss out on enjoying favorite earrings and jewelry. So a simple solution that saves you from these messy jewelry tangles AND lets you enjoy seeing your beloved earrings AND get them out and put away easily is needed. And the solution is Earring Holders!

Earring Holders let you easily hang your drop earrings and stud earrings up so you get to see them, they’re safe and cared for (very good for beloved gold earrings especially), easy to get out and you also get to enjoy them more because you can see them set up for display in a beautiful way just like the look in the shop.

Earring holders are also known as earring stands, earring trees, earring organizers, and jewelry display stands. All are about enjoying your jewelry more and making life easier. Earring holders are great presents and are ideal for displaying drop earrings, stud earrings, and jewelry in general.

The Story Behind Handmade Lampwork Beads

Hey there,

The heritage of Creatively Belle handmade lampwork beads is really the heritage of Bohemia.

For 300 years the world’s greatest makers of costume jewelry have hidden, anonymously, in the heart of Europe; Gablonz, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic).

Bohemian glass dynasties lasted for centuries, until the middle of the 20th century, when the entire community of German-stock craftspeople was expelled from the area in the turbulence of World War II.

Now, more than 60 years after WWII, the glass making industry has recovered, spread to a wider area and is growing and so is the popularity of lampwork bead jewelry.
