Secrets of Success Here

The Secrets of Success are usually the most obvious ones that are commonly overlooked and can come from the most unusual sources. Here’s an example of an important lesson when learning the secrets of success.

I was watching Love’s Harvest last night about an organic raspberry farmed who took 4 seasons, four years to get a successful crop result. Each year they tried different varieties of raspberries until they found the one that best suited their environment.

The big lesson from this was the idea they should have planted a range of varieties in the first place to test what works best for their situation. So if they’d planted in their initial raspberry patch 3 - 5 different varieties in the first season they could start eliminating the types that didn’t suit and increase their chances of finding the ones that flourish for them. This would have saved years of financial hardship with failed crops.

It would mean that if they were lucky and picked the best variety in the first season they would miss out on having a full field of flourishing plants but when you’re sorting out your risks you need to determine the cost of one season versus many seasons.

Of course this lesson is coming from 20/20 hindsight but the idea of testing isn’t rocket science, it is a key to success - whatever you are doing. If you are working on your internet marketing strategy you test 3 - 5 internet marketing tactics to see what brings the best results. If you are working on new jewelry designs you make up samples and test them with your customers. The logic works across industries and concepts.

With a crop it is easy to see the results of your tests - to measure the test results. It is the measuring of the testing that matters as that’s how you decide what has worked and get ideas as to why it worked - or didn’t, as the case may be.

Loving Colour - Travels Through the Paintbox

Something my arts and crafts has given me is a love for Colour - all sorts of colors. So as a birthday present I was given the Victoria Finlay book “Colour” and I’m loving it.

I’m only into the first 20 pages and there’s already stories about how the putting of paint into tubes was a technical achievement that resulted in the Impressionist painters having the freedom to paint their impressions of nature in nature.

It got me thinking of how something that we take as being so very simple and everyday was once so revolutionary for the art and then crafts that is created a whole new way of perceiving not only landscapes but color, shaped, design and even social structures. I think that’s amazing!
I only new about “Colour” because I’d read and loved “Jewels, A Secret History” - a book about gem stones that I really recommend too.

Do enjoy and dive into colour!

All the best,
Belinda

Inspiration from Crafts and Arts

I’ve been working in some different mediums lately – namely pastels and pencils – and I’m finding it is influencing my work (jewelry design).

This regularly happens when I make time for doing something else creative, another craft, working with color etc but I seem to forget between projects and let too much time pass between projects.

It does still amaze me how doing different crafts and works brings out a new phase of inspiration and creativity, especially when returning to your normal craft or art.

Bead and Gemstone Jewelry - Black Pearls with Amethyst Gemstones and Handmade Lampwork Beads

I take this a normal thing but maybe it isn’t but I doubt very much I’m the only one that has this happen. What about you?

Who Else Wants Inspiration?

Hey there,

Sometimes I find having to create a new design just too challenging and I don’t have the inspiration for it. I sit there struggling and I’ve learned to just go with the flow and leave the creative exercise aside.

Instead I work on the regular designs that need updating and some attention of their own. I use to try to push the inspiration out of me but now I just go with the flow and do what I can do.

Yes, their are times when I need to come up with new designs for particular occassions but instead of trying initially for something out of the box I go for a design that is inspired by an existing design. I find that once I get started things improve and ideas start coming to me.

If I’m fighting with myself then there is no room for other ideas to come and explore.

I know when I’m writing it can sometimes be 99% effort and 1% inspiration and that is fine - it is the idea that matters and it is the skill of the writer/designer to bring it into reality.

So when you’re struggling with inspiration let go lightly and work on something that will allow ideas to come and be explored without tension.

Of course working with top quality components makes a huge difference when opening up to inspiration. I love working with handmade lampwork beads and always have a lampwork focal bead in the design. See more of my designs at www.CreativelyBelle.com.

Czech lampwork glass beads, crystals and pressed glass beads have a rich heritage and are always gathering compliments.

Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy it and your love for it will come shining through.

See How Easily You Can Build Your Network

Hey there,

Many of the industry groups offer members support with specials on products and services with the payback being that members behave ethically and professionally.

Some industry groups or associations have organised discounts for members on such things are merchant services so you pay less for merchant fees for accepting credit cards. Other benefits may include discounts at shops and suppliers, reduced shipping or transport costs, discounts on accommodation around the country, airline discounts, as well as hire car discounts.

Of course one of the most valuable rewards for being part of associations is the networking and mutual support offered by those who know what you’re going through. They can offer advice, recommendations, information about government regulations and much more.

It is always worthwhile exploring what associations are available to you. Ask others already established in your industry, find out abour trade shows and who puts them on - they could tell you who’s who in the industry, look up online or in phone books and of course, read books and see what they recommend.

Industry associations usually have a joining fee and then an annual fee but the benefits of being a member should always out weigh the cost of membership.

We have a heap of Free Business Articles, including ones on Internet Marketing for you online.

The Luxury of Being Right

Hey there,

On Sunday morning over breakfast with the family I found myself feeling deeply contented and self-satisfied all because I was enjoying the luxury of being right.

I was in the midst of the Living Arts and Crafts Expo at Ulladulla, a 3 day indoor event. It was raining and miserable outside and I was still able to make a living from going to the indoor expo.

I’d booked in to the expo on a wing and a prayer as a back up plan for the outdoor Milton Scarcrow Festival for the weekend as I’d be traveling 3 hours each way and last time I did that I’d been rained out of my outdoor festival.

So I was delighted when I was accepted for the expo and my outdoor festival. But when the weather changed and the rain settled in and the outdoor festival was washed out I was grinning because my back up plan was working!

It dawned on my over Sunday breakfast how often in life you’re not quite right, you might get quite a bit right, just not all of it. To have three days of showcasing and selling your designs to a friendly regional community in a safe and dry environment when it is wet and windy outside with boats being blown ashore it does feel luxurious.

So the lesson from all of this - have your back up plans and enjoy the good grace of saying thank you, especially when you’re enjoying the luxury of being right!

Stud Earrings or Drop Earrings / Dangle Earrings?

Hey there,

Something I’m learning about people and earrings is that there are generally two camps; people who love stud earrings and people who love dangle earrings, drop earrings. There seems only to be a small number of people who are completely happy to wear both.

I have a few pairs of stud earrings but by and large I have mainly drop earrings (dangle earrings). I like sterling earrings, natural pearl earrings, crystal earrings, diamond earrings (who doesn’t?), gemstone earrings, beaded earrings, gold earrings, Catherine Popesco earrings, just about any type of earring really!

So what’s your preference? Stud earrings or drop earrings? Do you really just love the inherant beauty of the earrings? I do. And I love show casing them at home on my earring holders - I have mine themed, not at all surprising I’m sure! :) Earring stands and earring holders are great ways to enjoy your earrings even more as you get to see your earrings always rather than having them hidden away in boxes and cupboards as well as saving you on no more messy tangles with necklaces.

I think jewelry and earring holdes make great presents - the earring holders and necklace display stands can be easier presents sometimes as they are really useful and practical presents for anyone with earrings.

With 60 holes the three tier earring stands can carry a pair of earrings per hole. Earrings can also hang over the decoration.

So keep enjoying your earrings and the daily beauty they bring to your life!

Quality Glass Making Regions

Hey there,

The Bohemians of the Czech Republic have carved a niche in many glass making markets and have had local competition for centuries - from Venice, near by German, Poland glassmaking regions and Austria.

This local competition has inspired the finest innovations in quality and techniques. The benefactors of centuries of close competition are you and me.

Many people instantly associate top quality lampwork bead designs with the Venetians and the Island of Murano. Their work is stunningly beautiful and their reputation is well earned. The Italians have a natural talent for promoting their wonderful abilities and understanding that business building has a lot to do with brand building. So over the centuries they have required the jewelers who use their components to include their name in the end result. Hence they are so well known.

The Bohemians are not so comfortable about coming forward. They have traditionally let jewelry designers and others use their work without requiring them to identify their source.

The end result today is one of naming. Both regions produce equally well crafted and stunning glass work, especial lampwork beads, but with the ability to brand their produce the Venetians are the best known internationally for glass beads. Yet the Bohemian glass still retains that little bit of extra magic for me and always will, especially because of their use of color and tones.

I love creating handmade lampwork beaded jewelry using the Czech encased lampwork glass beads and crystals as well as the compliments I get when wearing or showcasing them.

I find the best way to enjoy my lampwork necklaces and drop earrings is to use jewelry display stands, including earring holders so I can see them (no use hiding beautifully designed jewelry in a messy jewelry box!).
